LITURGY OF THE WORD***********************
The first reading is from the book of Sirach
If you choose you can keep the commandments, they will save you;
if you trust in God, you too shall live;
he has set before you fire and water
to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand.
Before man are life and death, good and evil,
whichever he chooses shall be given him.
Immense is the wisdom of the Lord;
he is mighty in power, and all-seeing.
The eyes of God are on those who fear him;
he understands man's every deed.
No one does he command to act unjustly,
to none does he give license to sin.
The Word of the Lord
ALL: Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ8LM3deVxU&list=PLMQrJzPlip5U8SDaZHqq5hFfKA3Ylmcai&index=4
R. (1b) Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
Blessed are they whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the LORD.
Blessed are they who observe his decrees,
who seek him with all their heart.
R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
You have commanded that your precepts
be diligently kept.
Oh, that I might be firm in the ways
of keeping your statutes!
R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
Be good to your servant, that I may live
and keep your words.
Open my eyes, that I may consider
the wonders of your law.
R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
Instruct me, O LORD, in the way of your statutes,
that I may exactly observe them.
Give me discernment, that I may observe your law
and keep it with all my heart.
R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
The second reading is from the First Letter to the Corinthians
Brothers and sisters:
We speak a wisdom to those who are mature,
not a wisdom of this age,
nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away.
Rather, we speak God's wisdom, mysterious, hidden,
which God predetermined before the ages for our glory,
and which none of the rulers of this age knew;
for, if they had known it,
they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But as it is written:
What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,
and what has not entered the human heart,
what God has prepared for those who love him,
this God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.
The Word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God
GOSPEL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BVBdU5mJ8s&list=PLMQrJzPlip5U8SDaZHqq5hFfKA3Ylmcai&index=5
Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth;
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
Alleluia, alleluia.
The Lord is WITH you!
ALL: And also with you!
A Reading from the Holy Gospel, according to Matthew
ALL: Glory to you, Oh Lord!
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses
that of the scribes and Pharisees,
you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
But I say to you,
whoever is angry with his brother
will be liable to judgment;
and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,'
will be answerable to the Sanhedrin;
and whoever says, 'You fool,'
will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there recall that your brother
has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court.
Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,
and the judge will hand you over to the guard,
and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you,
you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.
"You have heard that it was said,
You shall not commit adultery.
But I say to you,
everyone who looks at a woman with lust
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your right eye causes you to sin,
tear it out and throw it away.
It is better for you to lose one of your members
than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.
And if your right hand causes you to sin,
cut it off and throw it away.
It is better for you to lose one of your members
than to have your whole body go into Gehenna.
"It was also said,
Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce.
But I say to you,
whoever divorces his wife - unless the marriage is unlawful -
causes her to commit adultery,
and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
"Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'
Anything more is from the evil one."
Bp. Tom: The Gospel of the Lord
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus the Christ
Homily
Profession of Faith
THE NICENE CREED (Pre-2011)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, one in being with the Father. Through him all things were made.
For us and our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son she is worshipped and glorified. She has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Universal Prayer
Bp. Tom: Father, help us to not judge others by what they do or do not do but rather let us love. For “the greatest of all of these – faith, hope and love – is love.” Love prevents hate. Love prevents anger. Love prevents failure as we engage with others and it was love that drew the Apostles and so many to Jesus. We have more than enough opportunity; help us to learn. We now stand before you with these prayers and petitions and thank you for already knowing and answering.
*February is black history month. What can we say about our history? Even after the founders of this nation proclaimed that we are “endowed by our creator” we still have division, hatred, anger, and death. Forgive us Lord and let us be the change agents that will end this division. Let us be the generation that recognizes we are ALL created in your image.
WE PRAY TO THE LORD
LORD THANK YOU FOR HEARING OUR PRAYER
*For those dealing with mental health issues or depression. For those who have given up hope. Give them joy. Heal and restore them.
WE PRAY TO THE LORD
LORD THANK YOU FOR HEARING OUR PRAYER
*For your earthly shepherds who have answered your call. Build them up when they are down; heal them when they are sick; and encourage them when they become discouraged. We pray especially for Pope Leo, my Bishop Charles Braun, Bishop Leo Falcon, Bishop Vicar Gerald Miller, Bishop David Lett, Cardinal Robert McElroy, Bishop Sean Rowe, and me your humble servant.
WE PRAY TO THE LORD
LORD THANK YOU FOR HEARING OUR PRAYER
*For our military and veterans. We pray for those who have served and who struggle with health and mental health issues. We pray for those who are deployed during these holidays and away from loved ones. Surround them and their families with the legions of angels. Protect them. Comfort them.
WE PRAY TO THE LORD
LORD THANK YOU FOR HEARING OUR PRAYER
*For all who are ill. May our loved ones in hospitals or suffering at home know healing and peace. May God nourish the bodies that hold pain and loneliness. We pray especially for: Regina Arens, Roger Frazee, Nelson Arnold, Ron Gilroy, Debbie Hanson, Melissa DeWitt Arens, Deb Meyers, Cory Fleming, Fr. Joseph Ruggeri, Bishop Vicar Gerald Miller, Jackie and Gerry Spencer, Donna M. Eye Has Not Seen
by Marty Haugen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRyOS0nZr7s&list=PLMQrJzPlip5U8SDaZHqq5hFfKA3Ylmcai&index=6
Eye has not seen,
ear has not heard
what God has ready
for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come,
give us the mind of Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
When pain and sorrow weigh us down,
be near to us, O Lord,
forgive the weakness of our faith,
and bear us up within your peaceful word.
Eye has not seen,
ear has not heard
what God has ready
for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come,
give us the mind of Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
Our lives are but a single breath,
we flower and we fade,
yet all our days are in your hands,
so we return in love what love has made.
Eye has not seen,
ear has not heard
what God has ready
for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come,
give us the mind of Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
To those who see with eyes of faith,
the Lord is ever near,
reflected in the faces
of all the poor and lowly of the world.
Eye has not seen,
ear has not heard
what God has ready
for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come,
give us the mind of Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
We sing a mystery from the past
in halls where saints have trod,
yet ever new the music rings
to Jesus, Living Song of God.
Eye has not seen,
ear has not heard
what God has ready
for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come,
give us the mind of Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
Prayer over the Offerings
Bp. Tom: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness
we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work
of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.
The people reply: Blessed be God for ever.
Bishop Tom pours wine and a little water into the chalice.
By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
Bp. Tom: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness
we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and
work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.
The people reply: Blessed be God for ever.
Bishop Tom completes additional personal preparatory rites.
Lord God, we ask you to receive us and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you with humble and contrite hearts.
Bishop Tom pours water over his hands and says:
Lord, wash away my iniquity; cleanse me from my sin.
Bp. Tom:
Pray, my brothers and sisters,
that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people reply:
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good
and the good of all his holy Church.
PRAYER:
Lord, we make this offering in obedience to your word.
May it cleanse and renew us,
and lead us to our eternal reward.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
ALL: Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer
Preface Dialogue:
Bishop Tom: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.
Bishop Tom: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Bishop Tom: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Father, all powerful and ever living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks and praise.
You never cease to call us to a new and more abundant life.
God of love and mercy,
you are always ready to forgive.
while we often fail to forgive – ourselves and others -- you invite us
to trust in your mercy.
Time and time again
we broke your covenant,
but you did not abandon us.
Instead, through your Son, Jesus our Lord,
you bound yourself even more closely to the human family
by a bond that can never be broken.
Now is the time for your people to turn back to you
and to be renewed in Christ your Son,
a time of grace and reconciliation.
You invite us to serve the family of humankind
by opening our hearts,
to the fullness of your Holy Spirit.
In wonder and gratitude,
we join our voices with the choirs of heaven
to proclaim the power of your love
and to sing of our salvation in Christ:
Sanctus ("Holy, Holy"; based on the praise of the Seraphim in Isa 6:3 and Rev 4:8):
ALL: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord
God of Power, God of Might.
Heaven and earth are filled with your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Eucharistic Prayer for Masses of Reconciliation
Epiclesis (calling upon the Holy Spirit):
Father, from the beginning of time you have always done what is good for men and women so that we may be holy as you are holy.
Look with kindness on your people gathered here before you; send forth the power of your Spirit so that these gives may become for us
The body + and blood of your beloved Son, Jesus the Christ, in whom we have become your sons and daughters.
Institution Narrative (recalling the words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper; see Mark 14:22-24; Matt 26:26-28; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor 11:23-25):
When we were lost and could not find the way to you, you loved us more than ever; Jesus, your Son, innocent and without sin, gave himself into our hands and was nailed to a cross.
Yet before he stretched out his arms between heaven and earth in the everlasting sign of your covenant, he desired to celebrate the Paschal feast in the company of his disciples.
While they were at supper, he took bread, and gave you thanks and praise. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:
Take this, all of you, and eat it:
this is my body which will be given up for you.
At the end of the meal, knowing that he was to reconcile all things in himself by the blood of his cross, he took the cup, filled with wine. Again, he gave you thanks, handed the cup to his friends and said:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.
Memorial Acclamation:
Fr. Tom: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith:
All: We proclaim your death oh Lord, and profess your resurrection, until you come again (2x)
Anamnesis, Offering, and Intercessions:
We do this in memory of Jesus the Christ, our Passover and our lasting peace. We celebrate his death and resurrection and look for the coming of that day when he will return to give us the fullness of joy. Therefore we offer you, God ever faithful and true, the sacrifice which restores us to your friendship.
Father, look with love on those you have called to share in the one sacrifice of Christ. By the power of your Holy Spirit make them one body, healed of all division.
Keep us all in communion of mind and heart with Pope Leo; Charles, our bishop, me your humble servant together with Bishops Gerald and Leo and bishops and clergy everywhere. Remember those who take part in this offering, those here present and all your people, and all who seek you with a sincere heart. Remember those who have died in the peace of Christ and all the dead whose faith is known to you alone.
Help us to work together for the coming of your kingdom until at last we stand in your presence to share the life of the saints, in the company of the Mary the Mother of God, and the apostles and of our departed brothers and sisters whom we commend to your mercy.
Then, freed from every shadow of death, we shall take our place in the new creation and give you thanks with Christ, our Risen Lord.
Doxology and Great Amen:
Through him, with him, in him,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours Almighty Father,
for ever and ever.
The people acclaim: Amen.
Lord's Prayer (Sung)
Bp. Tom: Let us pray for the coming of the kingdom as Jesus taught us.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2FARs7pKZk&list=PLMQrJzPlip5VjouTomZJOMm4m_zNu7a8W&index=8
All: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And do not let us be led into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom and the power,
and the glory
now and forever. Amen

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Hold On To Love

There is a place for the sadness. Hold on to Love. There is a season of gladness. Hold on to Love. When pain and confusion seem endless, hold on to Love. We cultivate healing through kindness. Hold on to Love.
Hold on to Love, where joy abounds. Hold on to Love, where grace and mercy’s overflowing. Hold on to Love.
When terror and fear overwhelm us. Hold on to Love. Courage and faith will sustain us. Hold on to Love. When violence seeks to destroy us, hold on to Love. Acts of compassion restore us. Hold on to Love. Refrain
When hatred is used to divide us, hold on to Love. Wisdom and truth reunite us. Hold on to Love. When prejudice poses as freedom, hold on to Love. Dignity means “all are welcome!” Hold on to Love. Refrain

Revive my heart, renew my soul
In You, oh Lord, I am made whole
No more in fear will I wander
'Cause you're my God
My Lord and Lover
Like a burning fire
Be my one desire
I wanna be holy, just like You
I wanna go where You lead me to
With reckless abandon to Your truth
I wanna fall deeper in love with You
Oh lift me up, God my Father
In all this world, there is no other
I'm dancing in Your holy presence
And Your glory fills all my senses
Like a burning fire
Be my one desire
I wanna be holy, just like You
I wanna go where You lead me to
With reckless abandon to Your truth
I wanna fall deeper in love with You
I wanna be holy, just like You
I wanna go where You lead me to
With reckless abandon to Your truth
I wanna fall deeper in love with You
I wanna be holy, just like You
I wanna go where You lead me to
With reckless abandon to Your truth
I wanna fall deeper in love with You
And deeper, and deeper, and deeper
And deeper in love with You
And deeper, and deeper, and deeper,
And deeper in love with you
And deeper, and deeper, and deeper,
And deeper in love with You
I wanna be holy
I wanna be holy
I wanna be holy
I wanna be holy
